A world where all children and youth grow, learn and bloom.
Vision
A world where all children and youth grow, learn and bloom.
Mission
We generate evidence, build partnerships and drive innovation to shape policy and practice - so every child, from birth, has the foundations to learn, live and thrive.
Who we are
Why we exist, what we do, and how we work.
Why we exist
Across Sub-Saharan Africa, nearly nine in ten children cannot read and understand a simple text by age ten - the highest rate of learning poverty in the world. In the earliest years, more than 250 million children under five are at risk of not reaching their developmental potential. These gaps compound: what begins as a learning gap becomes an equity crisis, and the children furthest behind are those born into poverty, living in rural and arid regions, in displaced communities, or with developmental delays and disabilities.
What we do
Blooming World International is an African-led, not-for-profit organisation committed to strengthening the foundations of learning for children and youth furthest behind. We work in partnership with governments, communities, researchers and funders to make locally-rooted education the most durable investment a society can make - starting at birth, continuing through foundational literacy and numeracy, and extending into the skills and values young people need for life and work.
How we work
Evidence, partnership and innovation move together like roots, stem and branches of the same growing plant. We begin by adapting innovations already proven to work, enrich them with local knowledge, and generate the evidence that governments need to adopt and scale what succeeds. We share our data and findings openly - including what doesn't work - and we work through public systems rather than around them.
Our values
Rooted in the spirit of Utu, our shared humanity
Belonging
No one left out. The most marginalised children at the centre of our work.
Learning
Inquiry-led. We ask hard questions and let evidence guide us.
Openness
We share our data, tools and findings, and speak truthfully about failures.
One Team
We share credit and give voice to those closest to children.
Mutual Care
Safeguarding children and caring for the wellbeing of everyone we work with.
