Blooming World International (BWI) was founded in 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya, by Elisha Caleb and a group of researchers and educators set on tackling some of the most pressing challenges facing African communities: limited access to education, poor health, and food insecurity. From the outset, BWI's work rested on three pillars - education and capacity-building, applied research, and the tools to put that research into practice.
The organization was established to support communities in need of education, healthcare and other basic services, built on the conviction that lasting change starts with equipping people - especially the next generation - with knowledge they can put to use.
BWI began with limited resources and a makeshift headquarters, but a clear sense of purpose. That founding conviction still shapes our Harmony Nexus Approach today: education-led research that connects human, animal, plant and environmental health, rather than treating them as separate problems.
BWI is staffed mainly by African scientists, educators and researchers, and today numbers more than 50 team members collaborating with over 70 national systems, research institutes and universities worldwide.
As BWI looks ahead, our founding belief remains unchanged: that investing in education and research is how communities build the capacity to solve their own challenges, long after any single program ends.
